The CHECHEN ARCHIVE.

“The CHECHEN ARCHIVE collects, preserves, catalogues and gives access to video, photo and audio materials documenting the wars and related human rights violations in the Chechen Republic.
The Chechen Archive is a step towards memory, truth and justice.

The Chechen Archive is a non-profit organisation with the following goals:

To provide the Chechen people with these materials in order to contribute to a process of dealing with the past and preserve a testimony of historical events in the Chechen Republic.
To facilitate access to and the usage of these materials for educational, research and legal purposes, as well as the media, specialists and interested individuals or organisations for other use (books, films, articles, reports, exhibitions, personal and family history and so forth).
To collect and manage the audio, photo and video records of the first and second Chechen wars, violations of human rights and historical events in the Chechen Republic for long-term preservation.
Programme
The Chechen Archive documents the war in the Chechen Republic since 1994.
The Chechen Archive works for peace and justice, preserving historical testimony for the Chechen people.
The Chechen Archive collects, preserves and analyses the video, photo and sound materials and creates an electronic database with this information. The database is open for research.
The Chechen Archive is open to all those wishing to work together within the framework of our goals.

The founders

The Chechen Archive was funded by the Society for Threatened Peoples Switzerland, Echo of War, Peace Women across the Globe and Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières), supported by international foundations and donor agencies such as the Pro Victimis Foundation and the Swiss Association for the Preservation of the Audiovisual Cultural Heritage of Switzerland, Memoriav.
